Meet the Cast!

Fiddler on the Roof Program (coming soon!)

What Should I Expect?

Showcase offers a unique kind of theatre experience. You’ll see a full musical performed with a live orchestra—but without sets, costumes, or choreography. Instead, the focus is on the music, the characters, and the story.

With just two rehearsals, there’s a fresh energy to every Showcase. Performers carry scripts, scenes are minimally staged, and what unfolds onstage is part concert, part storytelling, and entirely in the moment. It’s a one-night-only glimpse into the heart of a musical, performed by singers and instrumentalists from across the state.

Spamalot will be approximately 2.5 hours, including a 15-minute intermission.

Spotlight on the Story

TRADITION, INTERRUPTED

Fiddler on the Roof is a story about family, faith, and continuity—but also about what happens when those foundations begin to shift. Set in the fictional village of Anatevka in early 20th-century Eastern Europe, the musical centers on Tevye, a milkman struggling to balance deeply held traditions with a rapidly changing world. Through humor, ritual, and heartbreak, Fiddler asks a timeless question: how do we honor where we come from while making space for who we are becoming?

Premiering on Broadway in 1964, Fiddler on the Roof marked a turning point in American musical theatre. With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joseph Stein—adapted from the stories of Sholem Aleichem—the show brought explicitly Jewish life, language, and theology to the Broadway stage with unprecedented scale and seriousness. It was also, paradoxically, a crowd-pleaser: warm, funny, deeply human, and immediately recognizable even to audiences far removed from its cultural specificity. Its original run became the longest in Broadway history at the time, cementing Fiddler as both a cultural milestone and a theatrical staple.

What gives Fiddler its enduring power is its refusal to romanticize tradition without interrogating it. Songs like “Tradition” and “Sunrise, Sunset” celebrate communal continuity, while the stories of Tevye’s daughters chart the painful, necessary evolution of values across generations. The musical holds joy and grief in constant tension—laughter coexisting with loss, faith tested by displacement, and love persisting even as the ground shifts beneath it.

Beneath its iconic melodies and familiar imagery, Fiddler on the Roof remains a profoundly modern work. It speaks to migration, cultural survival, and the quiet courage required to adapt without forgetting. In doing so, it invites audiences not simply to observe tradition, but to examine their own—and to recognize that change, however unsettling, has always been part of the dance.
